About Biddeford Dog Park
In November of 2008 a public meeting was held by the Recreation Department to determine interest in such a park for the area. Approximately 30 people attended and as a result a group was formed to create an action plan. Fellow dog lovers worked consistently to present a plan to the Recreation Commission and City Council. As a result of these efforts an ordinance was passed in April giving the group the go ahead to create such a park. The city agreed to provide the space however the community would have to raise the funds to build and maintain the park. A site was chosen within Rotary Park and efforts are being made to fund the park. Click here if you would like to make a secure online donation.
The value of such a park includes:
- Increased exercise for dogs and thus their owners.
- Opportunity for community building, bringing more people together at the park.
- Increased responsible dog ownership.
- The effort has also received the support of the Animal Welfare Society. They have acted as a resource to our group providing helpful information not only to us but the City Council as well. The AWS has also agreed to act as fiscal agent for the dog park creating an account to manage the funding. We are hopeful through the kindness and generously of local residents and businesses, we will be able to see this effort come to fruition and provide a safe and healthy place for pets and their owners here in Biddeford.
